He said that the state has a glorious legacy of producing world class doctors all over the world and even today a large number of students are pursuing medical studies to become qualified doctors from here. Regretting that none of the successive state governments have focused on establishing quality medical colleges in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann said that as a result of this, a large number of students have to go abroad for medical education.
He predicted that students aspiring to study medicine will no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine.
On the contrary, the Chief Minister said that these students will get quality medical education in these medical colleges. Following the agenda, Bhagwant Mann directed that the post creation process for Sangrur medical college should be completed at the earliest. He also asked PWD to ensure quality work and meet deadlines and added that all concerned should make ample deadlines to ensure timely commencement of admission in the next session.
For the upcoming medical college at SAS Nagar, Mohali, the Chief Minister directed that priority construction of additional hospitals and hostels as required by the next year should be expedited with proper adherence to timelines. Similarly, he asked the PWD department to expedite the process of floating tenders for the upgradation and construction works of Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur medical colleges.
Bhagwant Mann also directed the department to immediately start the process of starting work on Medical College Malerkotla.
