3 killed and 5 injured when two vehicles collide head-on in West Bengal


Calcutta: Three people were killed and five others injured after two vehicles collided head-on in West Bengal’s 24 Parganas district on Monday, police said.

The accident happened on Rayarhati Taki Road, within the limits of Matia police station in Basirhat, when the van carrying some laborers collided with the mini truck loaded with vegetables, police said, as reported by the news agency PTI.

The crash is suspected to have occurred due to morning fog. The locals rescued the injured and admitted them to the hospital.

One person died on the spot, while two others died at Bashirhat State General Hospital, the report said.

Later, all the seriously injured were sent to RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, police said.

The driver of the minibus has been arrested by the police.
