36 Chinese fighter jets and bombers fly near Taiwan: report


Taipei (Taiwan): China’s military flew 36 fighter jets and bombers near Taiwan, Taiwan’s defense ministry announced, AP news agency reported Sunday.

Ten of the planes flew across the median line in the Taiwan Strait that separates the island from the mainland on Saturday, the ministry said. He said they included six Shenyang J-11 jets and four J-16 jets.

On Saturday, Taiwan’s military also spotted four Chengdu J-10 fighters, a Y-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft and three H-6 bombers in the southwest of the island, the Ministry of Defense said on its website .

He said three Chinese drones were also spotted.

46 Chinese aircraft, 4 navy ships spotted earlier

Earlier this month, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense had claimed that up to 46 Chinese aircraft and 4 navy ships were spotted in the vicinity.

“Today (November 6, 2022) 46 PLA aircraft and 4 PLAN ships have been spotted around our region as of 17:00 (GMT+8). #ROCArmedForces has been monitoring the situation and responding to these activities with CAP aircraft, naval vessels and land-based missile systems,” Taiwan’s defense ministry said in a tweet.

Taiwan and China split in 1949 after a civil war ended the Communist Party’s control of the mainland, but Beijing has always claimed Taiwan as part of its territory.
