5.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Indonesia


Jakarta: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s western province of Banten on Sunday, the country’s agency for meteorology, climatology and geophysics said.

The quake struck at 17:02 local time (1202 GMT), with the epicenter at 26 km southwest of the province’s Lebak district and 12 km below the seabed, the agency said, UNI news agency reports.

The earthquake does not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, the agency said.

The tremors were felt in Jakarta, which is about 131 kilometers from the epicenter.
