Muraina: Eight pilgrims on their way to visit Rajasthan’s Kaila Devi from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh crossed the Chambal river on foot on Saturday.
According to the sources, the bodies of 4 of the eight people who drowned have been found so far.
The incident took place on the border of Morena, Sheopur and Rajasthan. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are searching for the missing people through local diving boats. The Rajasthan Police is also monitoring the situation at the site.
A group of 17 devotees visited Kaila Devi from Chilavad village in Shivpuri district. They all crossed the Chambal river on foot by holding hands to form a chain. They did not expect the depth of the water in the river and suddenly 8 devotees were washed away due to the high flow of the deep water. So far, 4 bodies have been found and the remaining 4 bodies are being searched.
Expressing grief over the accident, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Shivraj Singh Chauhan directed the Shivpuri district administration to speed up the rescue operation of Chambal river. The CMO of the Prime Minister’s Office is monitoring the rescue operation.
