Algiers: Sixteen people died and three others were injured in a traffic accident in southern Algeria, according to a statement from the Algerian civil protection authority.

The accident occurred on Monday when two vehicles collided in the southern province of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, he added, without elaborating on the cause, Xinhua news agency reports.

Local television Ennahar reported that among the dead were 13 Guineans and one Malian national.
