AC Milan start the season with a win over Udinese

New Delhi: Defending Serie A champions AC Milan got off to a good start in the new season with a 4-2 win over Udinese.

Milan recovered from less than two minutes behind to take the three points thanks to two goals from Ante Rebic, a penalty from Theo Hernando and a goal from Brahim Diaz.

“We can do better, there were a lot of positive things, but also other things where we can improve, but that’s normal for this period of the season,” said Milan coach Stefano Pioli

Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who joined Milan on a free transfer from the Premier League this summer, was signed by boss Pioli for his league debut in the closing stages.

Fans in the packed San Siro roared “We are the champions” as the team staged a comeback. Ante Rebić, the Croatia international, was named man of the match. There was a lot of responsibility on his shoulders tonight as Giroud couldn’t make it from the start. He responded in style with two beautiful goals and was also instrumental in the Rossoneri’s dangerous chances.

Ac Milan tweeted: “A brilliant start to our campaign! First three points in the bag #SempreMilan #MilanUdinese @Acqua_Lete,” on her official Twitter handle.

Udinese, who finished 12th last season, were the last side to score against Milan at the San Siro before the champions clinched the title in a run of five home games without conceding.

Udinese host Salernitana next Saturday while Milan travel to Atalanta on Sunday.
