Actor Siddharth booked by Hyderabad Cyber Crimes police for objectionable comments against Saina Nehwal

New Delhi: In a major development, a case has been registered against actor Siddharth for making derogatory remarks against star shuttler Saina Nehwal at Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Station on Wednesday.

The actor has been booked under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

The case has been registered after a complaint was filed by a woman named Prerna.

Back on January 5, ace badminton player Saina Nehwal issued a tweet following the PM’s ‘security breach’ incident in Punjab. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on his way to Ferozepur to inaugurate projects worth several crores when his convoy was stopped for about 15-20 minutes at the flyover, about 30 km from the venue. Tweeting about the incident, Saina said, “In the strongest possible words, I condemn the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists.”

After her tweet, actor Sidharth shared a cryptic post, writing, “Micro cock champion of the world…Thank god we have saviors of India. Shame on #Rihanna.”

Needless to say, his tweet was not liked by many, leading to outrage on social media.

The National Commission for Women condemned the actor’s Twitter post on badminton player Saina Nehwal, saying it was derogatory and anti-woman and even urged DGP Maharashtra to take action against the actor.

Since then, the actor also issued an apology letter to the ace badminton player, saying, “Dear Saina, I want to apologize to you for my rude joke, which I posted a few days back in response to one of your tweets. I can disagree with you on many things but when I read your tweet my frustration or anger also cannot justify my tone and words. I know I am more gracious than this.

He further wrote, “For a joke… if a joke needed to be explained, it wasn’t a very good joke to begin with. Sorry for a joke that didn’t land,” adding, “I, though My words must emphasize the drama and humor that so many people of all classes attributed to it. I am a staunch feminist ally and I can assure you that there was no gender implied in my tweets and Certainly there was no intention to attack you as a woman.”

He wrote, “I hope we can put this behind us and that you will accept my letter. You will always be my champion.”
