Afghanistan announces 15-man squad


New Delhi: Afghanistan have announced their 15-man squad for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which begins on October 16 in Australia. Mohammad Nabi, who led Afghanistan at the recent 2022 Asian Cup, has been handed back the captaincy.

Samiullah Shinwari, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afsar Zazai, Karim Janat and Noor Ahmed were included in the Asia Cup squad. These players missed out on a spot in the 15-man roster. At the same time, middle hitter Darvesh Rasuli, all-rounder Kais Ahmed and fast right-arm bowler Salim Safi were added to the team.

Rasuli, 22, made his international debut earlier this year. He was included in the squad after recovering from a finger injury and performing well in the 2022 Shapeza Cricket League. Kais Ahmed also celebrated a comeback in the team.

He most recently played a T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2022 while 20-year-old Salim Safi received his first international call-up. Afsar Zazai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rahmat Shah and Gulbadin Naib were designated as traveling reserves
