Agriculture minister inaugurates setting up of “Agriculture Investment Portal”


New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the integrated ‘Agriculture Investment Portal’ on Monday.

The minister said in a meeting with the co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda French Gates, that the government places full emphasis on supporting female farmers in the country.

The minister said that there are more small farmers in the country, and the government believes that if their strength increases, the agricultural sector will also improve and production will increase.

He said that traditional farming methods worked in agriculture in India. “Now, in the current perspective, investment is needed in the agricultural sector, in view of which the government initiated many reforms, incorporated technology into agriculture, and also the digital agricultural mission, so that farmers entitled to support can receive support in a transparent manner. started in the country.”

The minister added that to further increase investment in agriculture, the government has earmarked a special package of over Rs 1.5 crore for agriculture and allied sectors under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’. “Work has started on these provisions including Rs. 1 million billion Agricultural Infrastructure Fund. Once these are realized, the Indian agriculture sector will be rejuvenated.”

Tomar said that there are many women working in agriculture in India as well. “In order to increase their number and their continuous progress, the Ministry of Rural Development Trade Unions also runs a program aimed at empowering women farmers, in which the Ministry of Agriculture is also a partner. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture allocates part of its budget to the promotion of female farmers.”

He added that the ‘Krishi Nivesh Portal’ (Agricultural Investment Portal) would prove to be a landmark for investments in the agriculture sector. “It will be a centralized one-stop portal for agri-investors to benefit from various government schemes implemented by various ministries related to agriculture and allied sectors. This portal would prove useful to investors, they would get a lot of help from it.”

Acknowledging the work done by the Gates Foundation in various fields in India, Tomar hoped that the foundation’s work in Indian agriculture would prove to be a good experience.

During the meeting, Melinda Gates expressed her happiness that India won the G-20 chairmanship and expressed her desire to always work together.
