Ahead of Diwali, the government approves a bonus of Rs 1,800 crore for railway employees


New Delhi: The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved Rs 1,832 crore productivity-linked bonus for 11.27 crore railway employees.

Before the Diwali festival, the government has retrospectively given permission to pay a productivity-related bonus to railway employees for the financial year 2021-22.

This year also, PLB amount equivalent to 78 days pay has been paid to about 11.27 lakh non-post public railway employees, the official statement said, adding that the maximum amount paid per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days.

“The above amount has been paid to various categories, including track administrators, drivers and guards, station managers, supervisors, technician, assistant technician, air traffic controller, spotters, ministerial staff and other Group C staff,” the statement said.

The financial impact of 78 days PLB to railway employees is estimated to be Rs. 1832.09 crore, the statement said.

The above decision to pay PLB has been taken despite the adverse financial situation caused by post-Covid-19 challenges, it added.
