Lucknow: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Friday met the family of Daljit Singh, a farmer who lost his life in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. After meeting him, Akhilesh Yadav while talking to the media said, “Until the resignation of the Minister of State for Home, the families of these victims will not get justice.”
Earlier in the day also, Yadav said summoning Teni’s son for questioning in the Lakhimpur Kheri case was only a formality and insisted that he should resign for a fair probe into the incident.
“Sending summons to the minister’s son (Ashish Mishra) is a formality. The government has woken up after the intervention of the Supreme Court. The minister should resign,” Yadav said.
The Uttar Pradesh Police said eight people had died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident on October 3. Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday registered a case of murder against Ashish Mishra.
Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of several farmers’ unions, alleged that Ashish Mishra Teni, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, arrived with three vehicles when the farmers were dispersing their protest at the helipad and landed on the farmers. And finally attacked SKM leader Tajinder Singh Virk too directly, tried to drive a vehicle over him. However, Ashish Mishra denied the allegations of SKM and said that he was not present at the place where the incident took place.
