What is a Rare U Certification?
In general, all films are U/A certified, which means they can be freely exhibited to the public under parental guidance for children under 12 years old. Now receiving a rare U certification means the film is completely unrestricted and family-friendly.
It is surprising that Raksha Bandhan has received the “U” certificate from Aanand L Rai. The story revolves around a brother and his unmarried sisters who meet the qualifications of a common man. Lala Kedarnath (Akshay Kumar) wants to marry off his four sisters (played by Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth) and is tireless in his efforts.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raksha Bandhan was written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon. The music for Rakshabandhan is by Himesh Reshammiya and the lyrics are by Irshad Kamil.
Raksha Bandhan, starring Bhumi Pednekar, Akshay Kumar, Neeraj Sood, Seema Pahwa, Saadia Khatib, Abhilash Thapliyal, Deepika Khanna, Smriti Shrikant and Sahajmin Kaur, is scheduled for release on August 11, 2022.
The film was produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma in association with Zee Studios, Alka Hiranandani and Cape of Good Films.
In a recent interview, director Rai said, “For me, this is more of a personal victory. I set out to make a clean family entertainer. That was definitely the thought when I shot Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015). But I got a U/A certificate for her. It makes little difference, but it’s a moral victory for me.”
