Amazing diving catch by Dinesh Karthik


New Delhi: The first World T20 remains special for Indian cricket for several reasons. It was in this tournament that one of the best T20I catches was made. The man behind the memorable catch was Dinesh Karthik.

India needed two wins from two games to qualify for the semi-finals. The first match was played against a strong South African team. India went to bat first and posted 153-5 on the board. It was not a good enough score for the tall and experienced South African batting line-up.

However, RP Singh removed both keys in the first over himself. Herschel Gibbs was trapped LBW while Graeme Smith was dismissed by a brilliant catch by Karthik.

Singh bowled an outswinger to Smith, who guided the ball to drop. Karthik appeared like a bird on a television screen, flew to his left and caught the ball mid-air to send the South African captain back to the dugout.

The South Africans could then manage just 116 runs in their 20 overs as India won the match by 37 runs. In the end, India defeated Pakistan in the final and won the cup, which also laid the foundation for the Indian Premier League.
