Amid Uddhav-Shinde tussle, EC freezes use of ‘bow and arrow’ symbol


New Delhi: Amid the tussle between former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and current CM Eknath Shinde over the election symbol’s claim, the Election Commission of India on Saturday froze the ‘bow and arrow’ symbol in the upcoming Andheri East Assembly poll.

In an interim order, the poll body said that in the Andheri East bye-polls neither of the two groups will be allowed to use the ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol, reserved for ‘Shivsena’.

“Both groups will be known by the names they may choose for their respective groups including, if they so wish, the link with their parent party ‘Shivsena’ and the two groups will also be assigned different symbols of their choice . the list of free symbols notified by the Electoral Commission for the purpose of the current special elections,” the EC order said.

The two groups have been asked to present their chosen symbols to the Electoral Commission before 1:00 p.m. on October 10.
