Asus Zenfone 9 appears to be in development as a promotional video leaked online. The alleged video shows the upcoming Zenfone 9 in full. A separate leak has meanwhile suggested the specs you can expect. The Zenfone 9 will be the successor to the Zenfone 8, which arrived last year in several variants. However, the one shown in the video looks like the vanilla variant. But that’s not the interesting thing about Asus’ next flagship.
The Zenfone 9 promotional video, which Asus “accidentally” posted to its YouTube channel and later extracted, shows a rather unique side fingerprint sensor. In addition to allowing you to unlock the phone, the sensor will also act as a scroll key. Asus calls it the “smart key”. The animation in the video shows a hand sliding down a web page with a finger swipe along the phone.
Scroll key: a gimmick?
This is the only feature the video confirms for said smart key. It is possible that this key allows you to make more gestures. Indeed, this is not the first time that the fingerprint reader has been assigned to gestural tasks. For example, the popular Samsung Galaxy Z Flip’s fingerprint sensor pulls down the notification drawer with a simple swipe. And it’s not even the only latest phone. This feature dates back to the days of the Pixel 2, whose rear-mounted fingerprint sensor lets you lower the notification shade with a simple swipe down. But Asus has improved the in-app navigation functionality like scrolling through an article or web page.

So far, this seems like an intriguing way to navigate your phone. However, we would know if it will end up being a one-time fancy that you use once and then switch off forever after Asus launches its pitch for the Zenfone 9. When? We do not know yet. Asus hasn’t officially announced anything yet. But it’s likely to make an announcement soon, possibly around the launch date of the next flagship.
Asus Zenfone 9 specs have also been squeezed out by a credible tipster. According to Twitter user SnoopyTech, the Zenfone 9 will come with a 5.9-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and shoulder triggers. The shoulder triggers are an attractive offering because, if true, this could be the first time a Zenfone device has rivaled the company’s ROG phone in the gaming mobile phone category. And the fact that the Zenfone 9 will use the top-notch Qualcomm processor makes that a solid guess.
Asus Zenfone 9 price
The tipster also said that the Asus Zenfone 9 will cost between 800 and 900 Euros which is around Rs 64,200 to Rs 72,200. The Asus Zenfone 8 was launched in India as Asus 8z for a starting price of Rs 42,999, so the leaked price is clearly higher.
