A number of new character posters for the upcoming “Barbie” film starring Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie have proven a long-running rumour: Ryan Gosling and Gerwig are not the only Barbie and Ken dolls in the picture. While Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and other celebrities play Barbie in different ways, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans play versions of Ken.
Nicola Coughlan’s Barbie is a diplomat, Dupa Lip’a’s Barbie is a mermaid, and Issa Rae’s Barbie is president, according to a recurring joke in the “Barbie” character posters. In contrast, all of the actors portraying Ken are just playing Ken. Additionally, the character posters offer a first look at Michael Cera as Allan, Will Ferrell as the CEO of Mattel, and Helen Mirren as the narrator.
The “Barbie” story is still a secret, despite the fact that the complete cast has already been revealed. The movie is rumoured to follow the characters played by Robbie and Gosling as they falter in the real world. The pair gained fame for filming “Barbie” sequences on Venice Beach last year.
In reference to the online attention her ‘Barbie’ images received, Robbie said to Jimmy Fallon, “I can’t tell you how horrified we were, by the way. “We appear to be smiling and having a good time, but we’re actually dying inside. Dying. This is the most embarrassing time of my life, I thought.
Robbie said, “No! I never expected the ‘Barbie’ set photographs would dominate online talk the way they did. I mean, I understood that we needed to shoot some exteriors in Los Angeles. When you started taking exterior photos, I knew you’d get photographed. Because we stand out a little bit in those outfits, there will probably be a little gathering of people who will pay attention. I therefore anticipated some interest and perhaps even some photographs going viral, but not to the extent that it happened.
Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” debuts in theatres nationwide on July 21. The character posters can be seen below.
