West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has won the Bhawanipur by-election by a margin of over 58,000 votes. He defeated Priyanka Tibrewal of BJP.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has won the Bhawanipur by-election by a margin of over 58,000 votes. He defeated Priyanka Tibrewal of BJP.

Counting of votes for bypolls to Bhabnipur, Jangipur and Samserganj assembly constituencies in West Bengal began at 8 am on Sunday amid tight security. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also congratulated Banerjee. He tweeted in Hindi, “Mamata didi’s victory is in the tradition of Satyamev Jayate.”

The total number of voters in Bhawanipur is 20,64,56; Out of which 1,11,243 are males and 95,209 are females. There were 287 booths in Bhabnipur, out of which the number of main booths was 269.

The Trinamool Congress had registered a landslide victory, winning 213 out of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly. BJP got 77 seats.
