Big blow for Team India ahead of ODI series against New Zealand, star player out


New Delhi: Ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand A, the India A team has suffered a major setback. Star player Navdeep Saini has been ruled out with a back injury. He has also been ruled out of the remaining Duleep Trophy matches.

The pacer picked up the injury on the first day of the Duleep Trophy semi-final between North Zone and South Zone in Salem. He could only bowl 11.2 overs during the match.

The three-match ODI series will begin on September 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Saini’s exit before this series will be a huge blow to the Indian team.

Rishi Dhawan got the spot

Saini will now be rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Rishi Dhawan has been included in the India A squad in place of Saini.

Saini was included in the team that won the Kent trophy in the recent Royal London One-Day Cup. He took five wickets in five matches he played. He took 11 wickets during his two County Championship matches for Kent. This included a five-wicket haul against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
