Bihar: 1 killed, 10 policemen injured after mob set fire to police station over custodial death

Patna (Bihar): A mob torched a police station building in Bettiah area of ​​West Champaran district of Bihar on Saturday, killing an assistant sub-inspector and injuring at least 10 policemen.

According to SP Upendra Nath Sharma, many vehicles parked in the police station were damaged. According to the Free Press Journal report, the official vehicle of the circle inspector of Manatand city was also set ablaze.

The report said that the police fired 15 rounds.

Earlier, on the complaint of local Block Development Officer Meena Sharma and Circle Officer Manish Kumar, the police seized the vehicle of a person named Anirudh Kumar. Later he was taken to the police station.

According to the report, after a few hours Anirudh’s body was kept outside the police station premises. Soon after, the villagers reached the police station and alleged that he was brutally thrashed in the police lockup and accused the policemen of his death.
