Bodh Gaya (Bihar): India’s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha is being built in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

Built by Buddha International Welfare Mission, this statue will be 100 feet long and 30 feet high. Lord Buddha is in a sleeping posture in the idol. The construction of the giant statue started in the year 2019. It is being made from fiberglass and is being made by sculptors from Kolkata.

Bhante Aryapala Bhikshu, Founding Secretary of Buddha International Welfare Mission, said, “The idol of Lord Buddha is in Mahaparinirvana posture which has great significance in Buddhism. Before Mahaparinirvana, Lord Buddha preached in this posture to his disciples of Bodh Gaya. The place is there. Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment, so this idol is being built here.”

He said that this mudra idol of Lord Buddha is in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh where he attained his Mahaparinirvana. He further informed that the giant statue of Lord Buddha will be opened for devotees from February 2023.
