Body found in suitcase outside Jalandhar railway station


Jalandhar: The body of a man, believed to be in his thirties, was found in a red suitcase outside the railway station in the city of Jalandhar on Tuesday morning.

According to police, a worker noticed the red suitcase abandoned outside the station around 6am.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Om Prakash of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said, “We reached the spot as soon as we received information about the body of a man lying in a suitcase red near the bushes on the outskirts of the Jalandhar city railway. station,” according to reports Hindustan Times.

“Forensic teams and a team of dogs have started their investigation,” he added.

“Our teams are examining CCTV footage, which shows a man in his 30s dropping his suitcase and heading towards the ticket office. The body has been taken for a post-mortem examination, while making efforts to arrest the accused,” said the ACP.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, while a process is underway to identify the victim, the official said.

The police added that an investigation is underway and that the body has been taken for a medical examination.
