‘Bound to voice people’s grievances’: MP P Chidambaram


New Delhi: Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday reiterated that the big party’s protest is “about price hike and Agnipath”. He further stated that the Congress will continue to protest the increasing burden on the common man.

The Congress leader said, “This protest is about price hike and Agnipath. Price hike affects everyone. As a political party and as elected representatives we are bound to voice the grievances, burdens and fears of the people. That’s what we’re doing.”

Congress leaders proceeded from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, but were barred and detained by the Delhi Police.

However, the Congress MPs were detained outside the Rajy Sabha when they tried to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The protest was held against the ‘nakam’ (unsuccessful) policies of the central government-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the morning, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a press conference saying “Democracy is ending”.

The Congress members started their protest even as permission was denied by the Delhi Police. Congress members wore black to condemn the inflation scheme and Agnipath.

Due to this, paramilitary forces and Delhi Police resorted to block the Vijai Chowk road and the Parliament route to the President’s House using barricades.

Congress leaders had also planned “gherao’ the House of the PM.

Meanwhile, the saffron party alleged that the Congress is trying to create a distraction over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid in the National Herald case.
