Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II dies at the age of 96


LONDON: Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-lived and longest-reigning queen, passed away on Thursday afternoon, the royal family was informed Thursday night.

“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the royal family said in a tweet at 11pm.

The post added: “The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Buckingham Palace announced that the 96-year-old was under medical supervision in Balmoral after doctors became concerned about her health.

The Queen withdrew from the virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, a day after Liz Truss was appointed prime minister at her home in the Scottish Highlands.
