Center announces new Chief Justices for Cuttack, Rajasthan, J&K High Courts


New Delhi: The Central government in a notification on Tuesday announced the elevation of two judges as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court and Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to Rajasthan High Court. Notification of transfer was also issued.

The Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law issued a notification in this regard.

Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that in compliance with the constitutional provisions, Justice Prasanna B Varle has been appointed as Chief Justice of Karnataka HC, Justice AM Magrey as Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh.

Extending his best wishes, Rijiju said, Justice Pankaj Mithal has been transferred as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.

In September, the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 28 September recommended Justice PB Varle, who is currently a judge of the Bombay High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir. In another statement, the collegium recommended the transfer of Justice Pankaj Mithal from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to the Rajasthan High Court.
