“Conspiracy to take down Muslims,” Maulana blames NIA raids on PFI

New Delhi: Muslim cleric Maulana Sajid Rashidi on Friday condemned the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) raids on Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders, calling them a “conspiracy to take down Muslims”.

He claimed that attempts were being made to “ban” PFI. His comments came a day after the NIA and ED raided PFI at various locations in 15 states across the country and arrested 106 of its members.

Muslim cleric Rashidi said: “Just as Congress has banned SIMI, so are attempts to ban PFI. Action should be taken against the organization that works against the country, but if you take action against the organization just because it works for the upheaval of Muslims and you try to declare it a terrorist organization, it is breaking the law and breaking the law Constitution . These are the same people who call those who study in a Koran school terrorists. This is a conspiracy to take down Muslims.”

He claimed that PFI’s work for Muslims in Kerala was “commendable”.

He also slammed Umer Ahmed Ilyasi of the All India Imam Organization for calling Mohan Bhagwat “the father of the nation,” saying, “There are still people with the mindset of Godse. There is only one Rashtrapita, that is Mahatma Gandhi, the whole world knows about it.”

“I want to say Mohan Bhagwat. On the one hand you say that we have to save the Waqf property and on the other hand you go to an illegal property and sit with them,” Rashidi added.

Ilyasi called RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat the “father of the nation” on Thursday after visiting a masjid and madrassa in Delhi today.

“Mohan Bhagwat Ji visited me today at my invitation. He is ‘Rashtra-Pita’ & ‘Rashtra-Rishi’. Good news will come from his visit. Our way of worshiping God varies, but the greatest religion is humanity. We believe that the country comes first,” Ilyasi tweeted.

Having previously visited a Masjid in Kasturba Gandhi Marg, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat went to the Azad Market Madrasa Tajweedul Quran in Old Delhi, interacted with the children and also had an advice for them.

Madrassa director Mahmudul Hasan told ANI: “The RSS head stayed in the madrassa for about an hour and met the teacher and the children.”

Bhagwat’s previous visit to the Masjid and madrassa has attracted attention as it was his first time in a madrassa.

The RSS boss, who is championing a campaign to improve outreach to Muslims, also met with Imam Umair Ahmed Ilyasi, head of All India Imam Sangathan, last month. (ANI)
