‘Country needs him’: 78-yr-old former teacher donates Rs 50-lakh life savings to Rahul Gandhi


Dehradun: A 78-year-old former government school teacher, Pushpa Munjiyal, who lives in an old age home in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, on Monday donated her life savings to Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president and Member of Parliament for Wayanad in Kerala.

Pushpa Munjial has filed a will at the Dehradun court, transferring her property ownership to Rahul Gandhi.

‘Impressed by Rahul Gandhi’s views,’ the elderly lady named all of her belongings after the Congress leader, including assets worth 50 lakhs and 10 tola of gold.

Rahul Gandhi and his ideals, according to Pushpa Munjial, are vital for the country. She stated that she is greatly influenced by Rahul Gandhi’s ideas, which is why she is donating her assets to him.

“I am impressed with Rahul Gandhi. His entire family has worked for the country and now he is doing his bit,” News18 quoted Munjiyal.

Pushpa Munjiyal owned a house in Dehradun’s posh neighbourhood, as well as more than 100 grammes of gold. The resdential property and gold are valued at about Rs 50 lakh.

The elderly woman handed over her will at the residence of senior Congress MLA Pritam Singh. Lal Chand Sharma, the Congress president of Dehradun, was important in assisting her.

“Becoming Indira (Gandhi) and Rajiv (Gandhi) is not easy” (Gandhi). Both died in the service of their country. The Gandhis have a legacy, and I have great respect for them,” the former government school teacher said, adding that she believes Rahul will use the donation for a good cause.

Munjiyal, the youngest of seven siblings, lost her sight due to a failed eye operation. She moved in with her sisters 13 years ago after taking voluntary retirement.

“It didn’t last long and I eventually decided to move to an old age home,” she explained. 

“Everything is good at Prem Dham,” the former government school teacher added.
