COVID-19: PM Modi chairs high level meeting, underlines importance of following COVID related protocols

new Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the context of the Omicron wave and the status of the vaccination campaign in the country.

A detailed presentation was given on the global scenario and India’s COVID-19 situation, read a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The analysis of vaccine effectiveness highlights India’s continued efforts towards immunization campaigns and to aid in lower hospitalizations and lower severity and mortality rates during the recent boom. The review revealed that proactive and collaborative efforts led by the central government helped in effective management of the spread of the infection.

It was also noted that India’s pandemic response and vaccination efforts have been globally appreciated in reports from WHO, United Nations, International Monetary Fund as well as Harvard Business School and Institute for Competitiveness.

The Prime Minister appreciated the tireless efforts made by the vaccinated, health workers, central and state governments. Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of following COVID-19 related protocols and urged the community’s continued support and participation of individuals when they are due and to follow COVID appropriate behaviour.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Member (Health) NITI Aayog and other senior officials.
