DC vs RR: Bowlers help Delhi qualify for playoffs


Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs to secure their place in the playoffs. DC’s bowling unit restricted the Royals to 121-6 when Delhi set a target of 155-6, with 43 runs from Iyer and 28 from Hetmyer.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals decided to field first and invited DC to bat. Batting first, DC scored 154-6 on a difficult pitch. Delhi did not have a good start as both their openers were dismissed in the first 5 overs of the game. Middle-order batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant added 62 runs for 3 wickets.third Mustafizur took a wicket before Pant was bowled. Delhi scored 154-6 in 20 overs with Iyer 43 and Hetmyer 28, setting a target of 155 for Rajasthan. Mustafizur and Chetan Sakariya took two wickets each for Rajasthan.

Rajasthan did not seem to be chasing the target from the beginning. RR lost his first 2 wickets in 2 balls. Captain Sanju Samson (70 runs) and Mahipal Lormore (19) were the only RR batsmen to score runs in double digits. The bowling unit, led by Enrique Nortje, restricted the DC batsmen to 121-6 and won the match by 33 runs. With this win, Delhi have now qualified for the playoffs. For DC, Enrique Nortje took 2 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs. Rabada, Avesh Khan, Ashwin and Axar Patel took a wicket each.
R Ashwin completed his 250 T20 wickets with the wicket of David Miller.

Rajasthan at present 7. Isth With 8 points from 9 matches in the points table, the race for the playoffs is getting more interesting with each passing day. Mumbai, Rajasthan, Punjab and Kolkata all have 8 marks. DC and CSK booked the top 2 spots in the playoffs, with only two places left for the other teams. Sunrisers Hyderabad is already out of the tournament.
