Delhi: 10 arrested over violence on police personnel in Seemapuri

This is not the first time that a case of violence against the police has come to the fore in Seemapuri. In fact, on October 1, Delhi Police personnel who went to Seemapuri to investigate a case of firing had to face violence in the area.

New Delhi: A video from Seemapuri, Shahdara has surfaced on the internet in which some people are seen pelting stones at a Delhi Police van. 10 people including 2 women have been arrested in the incident. This is not the first time that a case of violence against the police has come to the fore in Seemapuri. In fact, on October 1, Delhi Police personnel who went to Seemapuri to investigate a case of firing had to face violence in the area. After the police identified the accused, they pelted stones at the policemen. Then two people were arrested in this case.

Earlier, Delhi’s Seelampur witnessed violence over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act with the area witnessing massive riots. At that time, thousands of protesters clashed with the police, pelted stones and damaged vehicles. Initially, the police in retaliation fired tear gas shells in large numbers and lathi-charged the crowd. The violence that broke out in the area claimed several private and public properties, including city buses.

The Citizenship Amendment Act ensures that Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists who came to India from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014, will be eligible for citizenship in India.
