New Delhi: According to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, 23 people died while battling dengue in the national capital this year.
In 2021, Delhi saw the highest number of deaths and the highest number of dengue cases (9,545) in the past six years.
According to the report released by Anti Malaria Operations (headquarters), South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the city had last seen double-digit dengue deaths in 2017 when 10 people died. The toll was the same in 2016. In the years that followed, there were four, two and one death in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Further, 4,431 cases were reported in 2016 and 4,726 in 2017, while the cases dropped sharply to 2,798 in 2018 and 2,036 in 2019. In 2020, there was a drop of nearly 50 per cent in infections, as there were 1,072 infections in total. reported last year, the lowest in the 2016-2021 period.
