New Delhi: The CBI on Friday arrested the deputy chief engineer of the Northern Railway posted in Lucknow for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 for clearing pending bills of a contractor.

“A complaint has been registered against the Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) of the Northern Railway, Lucknow, on the charge that he demanded bribe from the complainant in lieu of handing over the invoices of his company carrying out project work at Charbagh,” the CBI said. statement.

“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused demanding and accepting an unfair advantage of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant,” the statement said.

Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused, including Delhi and Lucknow, which resulted in the recovery of Rs. 38 million (approx.) in cash and other assets.
