Lucknow: The Election Commission on Saturday issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party for allegedly violating the COVID-19 protocol at the party office at Lucknow’s Vikramaditya Marg.
In view of the rising COVID cases, the Election Commission, in its order, prohibited political parties from holding roadshows, rallies, padyatras till January 15. Some media houses had reported the violation of the COVID-19 guidelines to the commission at a public gathering. The Chief Electoral Officer was asked to submit a report on the matter to the Samajwadi Party office premises on Friday. To which he said that the “existing COVID-19 protocol has been violated” by holding a public meeting at the Samajwadi Party premises which the party called a “virtual rally”.
After this, an FIR was also registered against the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday. The Election Commission has sought a reply from the SP within 24 hours regarding the violation of the guidelines of the Commission.
Voting for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
