Fire in Cairo’s Coptic church kills 41


New Delhi: According to church officials, 41 people were killed in a fire at a Coptic Christian church in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday.

Officials said the fire started inside the Abu Sifin Church in the capital’s working-class Imbaba neighborhood. The cause of the fire is not clear at the moment.

On his Facebook page, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi wrote, “I have mobilized all state services to implement all the steps.”

Later the fire department said that the fire has been brought under control.

Of Egypt’s 103 million citizens, at least 10 million are Copts, making them the largest Christian group in the Middle East.

In the most populous Arab nation, a Muslim-majority nation in North Africa, minorities have been attacked and complained of discrimination.
