Paris: French striker Karim Benzema was on Wednesday given a one-year suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of blackmailing his former France international teammate Mathieu Valbuena.

Earlier, Benzema had denied the charges and was facing up to five years in prison. The French striker also did not come to trial and was tried in his absence.
