In a notice, the Goa Raj Bhavan said, “Since the term of the present Legislative Assembly was till March 15, 2022, and in view of the notification of the Election Commission of India issued on March 10, 2022, the newly elected members were constituted. Legislation of Goa Assembly, the Governor dissolved the Legislative Assembly on 12th March, 2022 with immediate effect.”
It further said, “The Governor has now ordered the convening of a new Legislative Assembly on March 15, 2022 at 11:30 am, to administer oath to the newly elected members.”
Ganesh Gaonkar is appointed by the Governor of Goa, before whom the members of the Goa Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe the oath or affirmation. The Governor will administer the oath of MLA to Gaonkar at the Raj Bhavan at 11:30 am on March 14, 2022.
“In this connection, under Article 188 of the Constitution of India, the Governor has appointed Ganesh Gaonkar to be the person before whom the members of the Goa Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe the oath or affirmation on March 15, 2022. Ganesh Gaonkar shall be administered Oath of MLA by Governor on March 14, 2022 at 11:30 am at Raj Bhavan,” the statement further read.
In Goa, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 20 seats in the 40-member state assembly, defeating the Congress in 11 seats. Independent candidates got three seats, while two seats each went to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP). Revolutionary Goa Party and Goa Forward Party (GFP) got one seat each.
The BJP, which was one seat short of the majority mark in Goa, is set to retain power in the state with the help of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak (MGP) and independent candidates.
