Greg Barkley has been elected as the new president of the ICC


New Delhi: The new president of the International Cricket Council has been announced. The ICC Selection Board has unanimously re-elected Greg Barclay as President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a second two-year term. This was announced by the ICC on Saturday. The vote took place during the ICC’s quarterly meeting held in Melbourne on Saturday. The e-voting process saw the participation of 16 boards, including 12 full members from Test-playing nations, three associate nations and one independent director (Indira Nooyi of PepsiCo).

Who is Greg Barkley?

Greg Barkley has been the Director of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Apart from this, he has also served as a Board Member and President of the Northern District Cricket Association (NDCA) . He has experience in many companies in New Zealand and Australia. He is originally from New Zealand.

On being re-elected as ICC president, Barkley said: “It is an honor to be re-elected as president of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC directors for their support.” The ICC has taken important steps to promote the game of cricket and prepare a road map for its future.

BCCI did not field any candidate

To be nominated, a candidate must have the support of two existing directors to submit a nomination. Initially, the BCCI itself thought of fielding a candidate, but decided not to field one. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will attend ICC meetings and elections.
