Hero Electric launches first batch of electric scooters from Mahindra factory in Madhya Pradesh

Hero Electric has announced the rollout of its first batch of electric scooters from Mahindra Group’s Pithampur factory in Madhya Pradesh. The new announcement comes just months after Hero Electric announced a 5-year partnership with Mahindra. The partnership was established as part of its growth and expansion plans to meet the growing demand for E2W in the country. Hero Electric had managed to maintain the pole position in the electric scooter market for a substantial period of time. However, the company was struggling with production problems due to the Russian-Ukrainian war as well as the shortage of semiconductors. The new move should help meet demand. Under the new strategic alliance with Mahindra, Hero Electric will produce two popular Hero e-bikes, namely: Optima and NYX. Beyond sharing space to build vehicles, the partnership between the two would provide a platform to work jointly on developing and sharing the supply chain for all new electric offerings. The two companies will strengthen this alliance and share their R&D expertise to develop new technologies and products for domestic and foreign markets.

Speaking at the announcement, Sohinder Gill, CEO of Hero Electric, said, “We strongly believe in like-minded strategic partnerships to deliver ‘true value for money’ electric mobility products. Our more than 20 solid relationships with preferred partners in the field of charging, maintenance, fast charging, exchange, etc. help us build a robust EV ecosystem, not just for us, but for the entire EV category. The rapprochement with Mahindra is one of those alliances of which we are proud. The two teams have worked closely together to seamlessly integrate the manufacturing process and offer the customer the same level of overall quality as those produced from our Ludhiana factory. With this tie-up, we are now on track to reach the half-million capacity that we had forecast a few months ago.
