The petition, filed by Ankita’s mother Sona Devi and father Virendra Singh Bhandari, has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder case.
Ankita used to work in Pulkit Arya’s resort
The body of 19-year-old Ankita, who worked as a receptionist at a resort run by Pulkit Arya, son of expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya, was recovered from Rishikesh’s Chilla canal on September 24 this year. She had been missing for at least six days before being found dead.
The expelled BJP leader’s son was arrested for his alleged involvement in the case. Amid criticism from opposition parties over the incident, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami immediately expelled Vinod Arya.
Gangster Act was imposed against them accused
On calls from the victim’s family that the investigation has been transferred to the CBI, the Gangsters Act was invoked against three accused, including Pulkit Arya, the main accused in the case.
Earlier speaking to ANI, Shweta Choubey, Senior Superintendent of Police, Pauri Garhwal said, “Gangster Act was invoked on three accused including Pulkit Arya, the main accused in Ankita Bhandari murder case.”
Elaborating on the progress of investigation in the case, SIT in-charge DIG P Renuka Devi said that the post-mortem report filed by the panel of doctors matches with the pieces of evidence collected by the investigating team.
