What is meant by this Chardham Yatra?

The term ‘Char Dham’ is basically a hindi word which refers to the set of four pilgrimage sites in India. These sites are considered to be very holy and auspicious. It is also believed that visiting these sites helps people in achieving moksha, the ultimate salvation from death and the rebirth cycle of life.

Typically, the four Dhams refer to the pilgrimage sites of Dwarka, Puri, Badrinath and Rameswaram. According to the Hindu Mythology, this auspicious and most important Yatra should be undertaken or start from the west to the east side. This is basically considered as the best route as it helps to cover the holy places in a proper clockwise manner. This, therefore, means that one should start off their pilgrimage journey from Yamunotri first, then proceed to Gangotri, then Kedarnath and finally finish their pilgrimage journey at Badrinath.

Why is this Chardham journey so important ?

The Chardham journey or Yatra possesses a lot of religious significance among the Hindus, i.e., for the hindu religion. It is of highest belief among the Hindus that every Hindu must go on this pilgrimage yatra at least for once in their entire lifetime.
