Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], October 15 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Thursday expressed hope that the World Health Organization (WHO) will soon approve the COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin from Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.
Speaking to the media in Bhubaneswar, Shringla said, “It is not an administrative or political process, but it is a technical process of WHO. The technical committee will evaluate the submissions made by Bharat Biotech which made Covaxin. I am sure that WHO approval for Covaxin will come as soon as possible.”
Praising India’s nationwide vaccination campaign, the Foreign Secretary said, “In a few days we will reach the one billion mark. We have done it so quickly. I am sure people will be surprised that we have also administered 25 crores.” People with a vaccine dose in one day, which is equivalent to the entire population of Australia.”
Earlier on October 5, the World Health Organization (WHO) has extended the emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin of Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech till next week.
“WHO and an independent group of experts are scheduled to meet next week to assess the risk/benefit and make a final decision on whether to list Covaxin as an emergency use,” the WHO tweeted.
Covaxin is submitting data to WHO on an ongoing basis and is submitting additional information upon request from WHO on 27 September. (ANI)]]>
