1918: Birthday of Shankar Dayal Sharma

Shankar Dayal Sharma was the ninth President of India, serving from 1992 to 1997. Prior to his presidency, Sharma had been the eighth Vice President of India, serving under R. Venkataraman. He was also the Chief Minister (1952–1956) of Bhopal State and Cabinet Minister (1956–1967), holding the portfolios of Education, Law, Public Works, Industry and Commerce, National Resources and Separate Revenue . He was the President of the Indian National Congress from 1972 to 1974 and returned to government as the Union Minister of Communications from 1974 to 1977.

1950: Sudha Murty’s birthday

Sudha Murty is an Indian educator, author and philanthropist who is the Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She is married to Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy. Murty was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for social work by the Government of India in 2006.

1967: Satya Nadella’s birthday

Satya Narayana Nadella is an Indian-American business executive. He is the executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, succeeding Steve Ballmer in 2014 as CEO and John W. Thompson in 2021 as chairman. Before becoming CEO, he was the executive vice president of Microsoft’s enterprise and cloud group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms.

2002: Death anniversary of Swami Satchidananda

Swami Satchidananda was an Indian yoga guru and religious teacher, who gained fame and following in the West. She founded her own brand of Integral Yoga and its sprawling headquarters in Yogaville, Virginia. He authored philosophical and spiritual books and had a core of founding disciples who compiled his translations and updated commentaries on traditional yoga manuals such as Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita for modern readers.
