new Delhi: Indian pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of India’s upcoming home T20I series against Sri Lanka due to a Grade 2 tear in his right thigh. Chahar got injured during India’s third T20 match against West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. According to reports, Chahar will now have to undergo about five to six weeks of rehab before he can return to the field.

The news comes as a big blow not only to Rohit Sharma’s Indian team but also Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings as the four-time IPL champions spent Rs 14 crore on the 26-year-old bowler.

Earlier this week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a new schedule for India’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. The tour was to begin with a two-match Test, but will now begin with T20Is, with the first match being played on February 24 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The second and third T20Is will be held in Dharamsala on February 26 and 27.

After the T20I series, the teams will play two Tests, which are a part of the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship cycle. The first Test will be played in Mohali from March 4 to 8, while the second Test will be played in Bengaluru from March 12 to 16.
