New Delhi: India is a top priority for Washington, a senior embassy official in India said on Thursday, noting that the country has made special arrangements to expedite visa applications for India.

The official also reported that there has been an increase in the number of visa applications.

“For various types of visas, we would not have much waiting time. Each category has a waiting time,” the official added.

“India is a top priority for Washington. Students, high-tech workers, tourists and business people make up a large part of our population,” the official said.

In response to a question, he said India will issue at least 10 percent more visas next year compared to pre-Covid times.

The US mission in India, according to an earlier statement issued by the embassy, ​​has issued a record 82,000 student visas so far in 2022, more than any other country.
