India logs 19,406 fresh Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours


Covid update: In India, 19,406 fresh cases of Covid-19 were registered in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday. The total number of people infected with COVID-19 in the country is currently 4,41,26,994, of which 1,34,793 are active cases. Yesterday, the number of registered active cases was 1,35,364.

The daily positivity rate is 4.96%, while the weekly positivity rate is 4.63%. In the last 24 hours, a total of 19,928 people have recovered from the coronavirus infection, and the number of those who have recovered is 4,34,65,552.

In the field of vaccination against Covid-19, more than 205.92 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as part of the national vaccination campaign. Here, 32,73,551 doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

In June this year, the Union Ministry of Health called for an increase in the vaccination of children and the elderly, after the number of cases in several parts of the country increased.

States were directed to accelerate vaccination coverage, particularly among the elderly population over 60 years of age, and the second dose in the 12- to 17-year-old population groups.

“States should also ensure that vaccines that expire first are administered first, preventing wasted resources,” the department said.
