India mark win against Zimbabwe by 71 runs


Melbourne: India won against Zimbabwe in the final Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Indian batsmen put in a strong performance against their opponents, with KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav hitting half-centuries.

India set a target of 187 runs for Zimbabwe and they failed to chase it down. Rohit Sharma-led India won by 71 runs and booked their semi-final against England in Adelaide.

Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets while Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya took two each. The other three bowlers managed to get one wicket each.

Brilliant knock from the Indian team

The motoring team of KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav put 186 runs on the board and multiplied the odds.

Rahul scored 35 off 51 runs before being dismissed by Sikhandar Raza. He hit 3 fours and 3 maximums during his stay on the court. He was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav who contributed 61 runs off 25 balls.

Rohit Sharma got off to an early start with 15 runs and Virat Kohli followed him with 26 runs in the 12th over. Rishabh Pant was the new addition to the team but failed to deliver and returned for 3 runs. However, Hardik Pandya played 18 balls and scored the same number of runs.

Importance of India vs Zimbabwe

India have already reached the semi-finals of the tournament, but this match holds significance in their run. Currently, Pakistan is leading with +1.028 NRR followed by India with +0.730 NRR. The first place will face England, while the second place will face New Zealand in the semi-finals.

India have now won the match and will face England in the semi finals.
