Stockholm, Sweden: The Indian women’s football team lost to top-tier Swedish team Hammarby IF 2-3 in a friendly match here at the Hammarby IP Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Indian women took the lead against their counterparts in the game twice, but soon lost, inflicting defeat. India had a better first half as Sangeeta intercepted the ball near opposition territory and played it to the lovely Zaxa. The forward tried to dribble to the keeper but was stopped on the track.

India kept knocking on Hammerby’s door several times, even as Pyari lifted the wing and played Anju, whose cross was thrown out of the box by the Hammerby keeper.

Indumati gave India the lead at the half-hour mark when she overtook a defender before scoring the keeper. The lead lasted only six minutes, as Jakobson soon leveled for the Swedish club.

The tide once again turned in India’s favor four minutes later, when a corner from Anju Tamang was driven into the back of the net by Manisa Panna as the referee ended the first half too soon.

Martina, who had earlier replaced the injured Sangeeta, made an awkward run on the left bank, cutting a defender before finally being ejected.

Hammarby, a former champion of the Dammlsvenskan League, has now put on a stellar performance for the visitors in a 3-2 win over the women.
