On March 1, the Indian government asked people over the age of 60 to be vaccinated, as well as those over the age of 45 with one or more than 20 comorbidities.

From April 1, people above 45 years of age without any concomitant disease were also allowed to take the vaccination. Subsequently, the government introduced vaccination for everyone over the age of 18.

The latest report says that about 75 per cent people have taken their first dose, while about 31 per cent people have also taken their second dose.

How did we reach this far?

While a large section of people were initially hesitant about the vaccine, the Indian government clarified why they should be properly vaccinated. The center provided accurate vaccine information and benefits to all with the help of media, social influencers and trusted doctors. India was prepared with two vaccines, Covaxin and Covishield; Later it imported Sputnik-V from Russia.

Amidst a sea of ​​fake news and myths, India has successfully managed to vaccinate 100 crore people in a country of over 130 crore citizens. India has certainly done something that even developed countries could not do.

100 crore vaccination journey

April 11, 2021 – On the 86th day of the vaccination campaign, the Government of India has vaccinated more than 100 million people.

May 25, 2021- Since the Government of India allowed all adults to be vaccinated, the vaccination campaign gained momentum. On this day, more than 20 crore people got vaccinated.

June 24, 2021- 30 crore vaccinations were done on this day.

July 17, 2021- By July 1, the second wave of corona virus had arrived in the country and people were more scared than before. Yet, India conducted over 400 million vaccinations.

August 8, 2021- In almost a month of the last immunization meet, we have reached the 50 crore vaccination mark.

August 26, 2021- After this, on August 26, the figure of 60 crores was broken.

September 8, 2021- Till date around 70.75 crore people have been vaccinated.

September 19, 2021- 80 crore vaccine shots have been given so far.

October 3, 2021- Another milestone was achieved on October 3, when India vaccinated 90 crore people.

October 21, 2021- India vaccinated over 100 crores and on the occasion of this victory, PM Narendra Modi visited and thanked the health workers for their fundamental contribution.

Soon- in a few months, we expect everyone in the country to be vaccinated. According to Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, the new target is to give at least one shot to the entire population by the end of the year. Also, vaccination of children above 2 years of age has also started.
