India’s vaccination coverage crosses 129 crore


New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry said that the cumulative number of COVID vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 129 crore on Saturday. It said that till 7 pm, more than 66,37,528 vaccine doses have been given.

The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, with healthcare workers being vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

India started vaccination for all people above 45 years of age from 1 April. The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
