‘Inspired by his rich service to the nation’: PM Modi pays tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary on Twitter on Saturday morning.

“Tributes to respected Atal ji on his birth anniversary. Remembering Atal ji on his birth anniversary. We are inspired by his rich service to the nation. He dedicated his life to make India strong and developed. His development initiatives have led to Positively impacted millions of Indians.” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

The Prime Minister also paid tributes to freedom fighter and educationist Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya on his birth anniversary.

He tweeted, “Tributes to the great freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji on his birth anniversary.”

Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday is celebrated as ‘Good Governance Day’.

Vajpayee, who headed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government from 1998–2004, was the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader to become the country’s prime minister. He served as prime minister three times – briefly in 1996, and again for two terms between 1998 and 2004.

One of the country’s prominent leaders and one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2018 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness. He was 93 years old.

The late leader was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2015. He was also awarded the Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Award for Best Parliamentarian in 1994.
